Traditional fine art prints are matted and framed behind glass, a system that was developed when it was necessary to protect the print from ulta-violet rays and stray fingers! Whilst this presents a classical look and feel and suits traditional decor it results in the print quality and texture being "hidden" to some extent.
I have developed a number of presentation styles using a 100% cotton mould-made textured "watercolour" paper. The resulting print finish has beautiful colour tones and a real "painterly" feel, with the art paper emphasing the textures of leaves, bark and grass present in the original photographs.
On the other hand, modern fine art papers are much more resilient, particularly when varnished as I do, and are guaranteed fade-free for a lifetime.
I coat the tiles with a matt varnish to provide long-lasting protection to this "open" style of presentation.

In order to show the full quality and texture of this print style I prefer to display these prints without glass by using a contemporary "Float Frame". The print surface is protected with an invisible matt varnish.
